Project Purple FREE 5K Fun Run – Sept. 10, 2017

We hope you will plan to join us for our September installment in our FREE 5K Fun Run series as we join the effort to raise awareness of substance abuse in Talbot County.  For this event, taking place on Sunday September 10, 2017, we are partnering with the Talbot Goes Purple community.

Talbot Goes Purple is a substance abuse awareness program that will engage our community and youth to stand against substance abuse.

The project is based upon THP Project Purple, an initiative of The Herren Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation established by former NBA basketball player, Chris Herren, that assists individuals and families struggling with addiction.

Talbot Goes Purple is an initiative from Talbot County Sheriff’s Office and Tidewater Rotary, in partnership with Talbot County Public Schools and Mid-Shore Community Foundation.

More information on THP Project Purple is available at www.thpprojectpurple.org.

In keeping with our FREE events, we do not ask for monetary donations, but rather encourage all participants to bring an item to donate to help create ‘blessing bags’ that will be provided to those individuals currently struggling with substance abuse in our community.  Items to consider include:

-Chapstick
-Facial Wipes
-Moisturizer
-Comb
-Toothbrush
-Toothpaste
-Q-Tips
-Multipurpose Wipes
-Compact First Aid Kit
-EmergenC Packets (when people start to feel sick)
-Hand Warmers
-Warm Socks
-Prepaid Phone Cards

2nd Annual LOVE RUN Free 5K Fun Run

Our Free Fun Run series started with a bang in January, and we hope you will help us keep things rolling into February for our 2nd Annual LOVE RUN Free 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 18th! Let’s keep the ‘love running’ after Valentine’s day. We encourage everyone to show their love and keep things FUN!

For this event, we will be collecting donations for Talbot Humane as your ‘registration fee’. Talbot Humane has been serving our community for over 80 years, and your donations will keep their efforts going strong in 2017. For a list of items, you can check out their wish list on Amazon HERE. But like every animal shelter, they can always use pet food, pet toys, paper towels, towels, pet bedding, etc.

Our FUN RUN series is designed to be just that….FUN!  We keep things fun by having the fun runs set up as prediction races. What is a prediction race? We ask you to try and guess your finish time and then, the participant that comes closest to their official time is declared a race winner! Any participant that guesses within 10 seconds is declared a winner in our book. Sound like fun? You should come give it a try!  Some races we have no winners, and some races we have had 10 winners!

Online Registration is available HERE.

On-site registration and bib pickup will begin inside the shop at 7:30am. The race will begin at 9:00am. We ask all participants to try and arrive no later than 8:30am. Please plan to park at St. Michaels Elementary School (200 Seymour Ave.), then make the short walk down to the shop.

We hope to see you on February 18th!
