Giving Thanks FREE 5K Fun Run – November 17, 2019

This Holiday season, TriCycle and Run will be hosting 2 FREE 5K Fun Runs that are designed as gift drives for local youth. The first is the Giving Thanks FREE 5K Fun Run scheduled for Sunday, November 17 that will benefit ProVision Student Ministries, and our goal is to collect gift cards and gift certificates that will in turn find their home in the hands of local youth looking to make a brighter future for themselves.

ProVision Student Ministries is located in Easton Maryland and have been working with students for over 10 years. They serve students from Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester counties. They offer a bus ministry for all of their Bay Hundred students and it is used on a weekly basis. As a non-denominational youth organization, they work to help students to make good choices in their lives, provide a safe environment where they can grow together as a community, and share concerns or issues then work together to find solutions for them. They host retreats and summer camp, as well as a weekly food bank and other outreach activities for our students. They work side by side with their students volunteering in our community and at fundraisers to help raise funds to defray the costs of trips that many of them have a hard time affording as well as the cost of their food bank for them and other program activities. ProVision Student Ministries is comprised of all volunteers and 100% of any funds that they receive by donation or fundraising goes directly towards their program for their students. Their goal is to raise up students who will be assets to the community and who will impact the world in a positive way wherever they are.

This event will directly benefit their annual ProVision Christmas Banquet, an event their students look forward to each year. The event features a traditional Christmas dinner and dessert buffet as well as a prize table for the students. For some of them the items that they “win” will be the only thing that they receive for the holiday season. For others its an opportunity to win prizes that they will in turn gift to others. The majority of their students come from financially challenged backgrounds so giving and receiving gifts is not something they get to experience often. Their students work through out the year volunteering at events in the community, working fundraisers and meeting weekly goals to earn points that are converted into points/tickets for our banquet. At the banquet they use their tickets to try to win items, and there is a “losers” round for those who haven’t won an item to participate in so that all students have a chance to ‘win’ something. No one goes home empty-handed. The gift cards, and gift certificates that you would be donating from the fun run will be much appreciated and will be a perfect addition to the Banquet prize table. In years past gift cards and gift certificates have been a “hot” item on the prize table!

Let’s kick off the holiday season together along our safe race course that follows the St. Michaels Nature Trail, making it ideal for all ages and abilities.

As always, this is a prediction race – meaning you try to guess your finish time. Anyone that guesses their finish within 10 seconds of your official race time will be declared a winner and receive a Gift Certificate for the shop.

We encourage everyone to complete online registration, but we will also have race day registration available inside the shop beginning at 8:00am on race day. Bib pickup will also begin at 8am. A rre-race meeting will begin promptly at 8:45am in our front parking lot at the store. Race will begin at 9:00am.

ONLINE REGISTRATION HERE

Please plan to park in the St. Michaels Elementary School lot and make the short walk (2 blocks) down to the store for the race start. There is one water station on course that participants have access to twice during the race. We will also provide bottled water at the finish line as well.

We hope to see you on November 17! And stay tuned for registration to open for the Ugly Sweater FREE 5K on December 21, 2019!
